Salvage and Loss at Delta Fish Facilities Metadata

SacPAS Process

SacPAS obtains the salvage database for fish facilities associated with the State Water Project (SWP) and Central Valley Project (CVP) from Fish Salvage Monitoring, CDFW Bay Delta Region. SacPAS calculates loss estimation based on methods as detailed in the Chinook Salmon Loss Estimation for Skinner Delta Fish Protective Facility and Tracy Fish Collection Facility, 7/9/2018 CDFW document. In addition, SacPAS applies the Delta length-at-date (LAD) model provided by DWR for Chinook run assignment and age categorization (Older and Smolt/Fry). The CDFW Salvage Database is replaced in its entirety with each public release, and SacPAS calculations are executed on the whole dataset.

  • WY2010 to present: Specialized reporting of DNA Race information for Chinook. Currently available in SacPAS "Salvage and Loss Detail Table" and "Salvage Timing" queries.
    • 2025-12-29: The CDFW Salvage Database has been updated with historical genetics information for confirmed juvenile winter run Chinook salmon at the CVP and SWP for water years 2010-2024, with ID numbers and probability scores. Please note that the method used for analysis in water year 2010 did not provide probability scores. Historical genetics information for spring, fall, and late fall run-assigned Chinook salmon prior to water year 2020 in the CDFW Salvage Database should be considered preliminary.
  • WY2012 to present: Specialized reporting of CWT data for Chinook by CDFW started.

Salvage and Loss data queries and visualizations on SacPAS frequently include environmental conditions.

SacPAS obtains Export data from two sources:

The Delta Outflow, Sacramento River and San Joaquin River flow data are obtained from two sources:

  • CFS from CDEC for FPT (for Sacramento River), VNS (for San Joaquin River), DTO (for Delta Outflow)
  • CFS for FPT+SRWTP, VNS, and NDOI from DWR operations control documents (PDF) 30 day window loaded daily

The Cross Channel Status is obtained from the log and change order PDFs located at https://www.usbr.gov/mp/cvo/ - The Cross Channel condition is checked daily via the "Latest Cross Channel Gate Order", and updates are extracted from the PDF log which is published at https://www.usbr.gov/mp/cvo/

On a daily basis, SacPAS calculates the OMR tidally filtered flow and the OMR Index (OMRI). See OMR Tidally Filtered Flow and Index Calculations as performed by SacPAS for full details. SacPAS calculated OMR Index is available for 28 October 2016 to the present.
